Sitting at an elevation of 8,700 feet above sea level Janki Chatti is known for its natural Sulphur hot water springs along with being a commencement point for the pilgrimage Yatra to Yamunotri. This place is surrounded by a vast network of snow clad mountains and impressive lush greenery making it one of the prime centers for finding spirituality and devotion while simultaneously gaining some peace of mind. From Janki Chatti pilgrims take up a trekking route of 4 -5 kms which is covered in 1.5 hours. It is not only a highly revered pilgrimage spot but it is also a prime destination for adventure seekers. You will be treated not only with refreshing hot springs but you will also be encapsulated among the gloriously green valleys.

Getting There:

  • By Air – the closest airport to Janki Chatti is located in Dehradun i.e. Jolly Grant airport from where you will easily be able to hail a cab or hire a taxi and head on towards Barkot. From Barkot you will be able to hire a shared jeep heading towards Janki Chatti.
  • By Rail – the closest rail head is situated in Rishikesh. Upon reaching the holy town of Rishikesh you will be able to easily hail a cab and head on towards Barkot where you will be able to hail a jeep to Janki Chatti
  • By Road – Janki Chatti is well connected by a network of roads till Hanuman Chatti. Buses only go up till Barkot from where a shared jeep will drop you till Hanuman Chatti from where a 7 kms trek to Janki Chatti commences.

Best Time to Visit:

Janki Chatti can be visited during the comfortable weather conditions of April to October when the roads have been cleared of snow and the temperatures are pleasant. Being located at a high altitude Janki Chatti experiences extremely cold weather conditions and it is advised to carry woolen and winter clothing items. The remaining winter months the entire area remains covered in a thick layering of snow making journey or pilgrimage impossible to cover.

Accommodation:

There are numerous accommodation and stay options available for a budget traveler. Budget hotels, camps, tents and hotels which are extremely pocket-friendly. There are no luxury hotels or resorts available due to its location. All the available hotels do not have a lot of amenities but are extremely comfortable, clean and neat. Some hotels also offer the facilities of hot running water, decent beds and a decent menu of delicious food items.

Places to Visit:

People visit Janki chatty if they are visiting Yamunotri Dham. It is also a nice option for going on trekking and hiking expeditions. Apart from this the naturally occurring hot water springs are also one of the major attractions of this place which upon visiting will leave you with an incredibly refreshing feeling. Some of the other nearby places include: Yamunotri Dham, Suryakund, Saptarishi Kund, Kharsali and Divya Shila.
